Hi guys, sending greeting from Czech Republic. We plan trip to RO in 3 weeks, 19.7. we will start from Brno. Plan is simple, as 3 years ago. Complete transalpina, Transfagarasan, salina in Praid. Have you got some new tips, pls?
We were at Italy 2 months ago. Drive some passes and finally make first stage of legendary Mille Miglia 2014.
Some photos here http://www.squadramoravia.com/diskuze/v ... &start=165,

Hello. Unfortunately you have to skip Transalpina from your itinerary beacouse is closed. The authority decide it to close beacouse the road doesnt respect the safety road regulations.

hi guys, thx a lot for your tips. we are not interested to visit cities, we love driving and "nature", road, forest, mountains . . .
I was thinking to visit Retezat, maybe only for one day trip. Not by cars, of course, i´m sure, that i can´t drive in there :-) What do you think about it, is it ok for trip by foot :-) ?
And what about Bicaz? Or is there, maybe in one - two hundreds km radius any road like Transalpina? Or is any possibility, than they will open it?
Is there, on Transalpina, any possibility of checking by Politia?
Maybe, we will go to road 57, copying the Serbian borders. It was really cool and empty at 2011 :-) And what about road 67D? I´m looking at google maps, it looks, that is new paved with thousand of corners :-) E79/66 also :-)
Thx for your advice, i am really appreciated for all tips

As main tip is to keep the legal speed if you do not want to pay some unwanted fees. When you expect less there is a cop with a radar :(

Unfortunately DN57 is good only a few km after Orsova (when you come from Drobeta Turnu Severin). The road on Serbian side is much better but is not heaven: maximum 80km/h but pay a lot of attention to the road. But in this way you'll miss the view. Also not heaven for the car.
Anyway, from Orsova till Drobeta is a new and good road, and with a very nice view.

E79-I don't know, I've never been there.

If Transalpina is not working I can recommend the next rout: http://goo.gl/maps/w6ljM
The most important are DN1A and DN10. E577 is just to make the connection between those 2. Both are nice to drive and both have very nice views. The road is good. I would give an 8.5 out of 10 for the quality of asphalt.

If you want to get to Brasov I would recommend to use DN1 (E68). The segment between Sibiu and Brasov is a very good road, nice view and nice to drive. Not as nice as the previous 2, but still nice.

we do not go to race in there  , but what i remember, speed checking wasn´t so often as in Czech.
Thx for tip for DN1A and DN10, looks amazing, i hope, we will "check" them
I´m still looking for 67D, it looks nicely. Orsova isn´t our priority, so we can miss that. But my colleague from work, he is from Resita, told me about Herculane, that i have to visit. Still checking it on google, there are spa only. Nothing more? No old setlement? 3 years ago, we were at Sarmizegetusa and it was awesome . .
And what about to get in there, i mean main roads. I was travelling from Mako to Arad through Nadlac and using E68 road to Sebes etc. Is there any new highway for fast move to the mountains? At 2011, there were new construction all around and everybody told us, it will be done in 2013 from Arad to Sibiu. In maps, it is called A1.
thx guys

They've been lying to us for years about highways completion. A1 is not finished and it will definitely take at least 2 more years before we have Nădlac - Sibiu completed. But Google Maps is always up to date, so you can see exactly what parts of it are done and the route planner works also.

I can imagine that you will not race :D , but there is a particularity of Romanian roads: the national roads goes along city and villages and usually the villages are developed along the main street, in this case the national road, and sometimes it becomes frustrating to crawl with 50km/h for 5 or 10 km (how long it takes the village) at every 20km. And because of this sometimes you will want to push a little bit more between the villages. In the last years most of the main citys in the country build roads to avoid crossing the city, but is not the case for smaller ones or for villages.
In the end you will drive however you want, of course. But I wanted just to warn you not to spend money on traffic fees.
By the way: for (usually) +10km/h there is no fee, just a warning; for +10 - +49km/h there is increasing fee; >50km/h you lose your driving license.

From Deva to Sibiu is almost ready the highway. There is a part where were some problems with the ground and is not finish. So, between Cunta and Saliste you will get back to the national road. But there are only 20km. There are in total around 110km of highway. If you come from Arad and want to enter on the highway before Deva pay attention to the signs indicating A1 because is a little bit tricky.
My colleague is right, Googlemaps is pretty up to date.

Around Baile Herculane I was about 3 years ago. At that time the roads in the area were not that good. I don't know what happened meantime.

There are also some very nice roads around Tulcea. Good asphalt, good view, good curves up and down. It's a hilly region but is very nice. I don't know if you get so far, but if you are interested I can ask one of my colleagues which knows better the area to make some recommendations.

Aroud Resita there are also some nice roads: DN58 - Caransebes-Resita-Anina and then continue with DN57B - Bozovici-Prigor-Iablanita. A mountain region, lot of curves, poor trafic, poor police splendid view, very good asphalt.

+10 for no fee is great, good to hear that.
Highway from Deva is great news, because at 2011 we spend 2 hours at 15 km long traffic jam before Sebes at fridays afternoon :-(
Tulcea is far for us, i checked some photos from this years Alfafest and it looks great, but f*cking far. Maybe next year . .
Oh, DN58 i drove at 2011 and it was awesome, as i remember. Our trip went from Arad to Timisoara, Caransebes, Resita, Anina, Coronini, Orsova, Caransebes, Sarmizegetusa, Hateg, Hunedoara, Sebes, north part of Transalpina to Lacul Vidru and back, Sibiu, Transfagarasan to Vidraru dam and back to Fagaras, Sibiu, Sebes, Arad and back to CZ.
As i remember, 57B to Oravita was cool, so if next part to Plugova is same, lets try it, thx :-).
Finally, i am watching Transalpina fan page on FB and administrator says, that Transalpina is not closed, but there´s only a recommendation not to drive in there. But wasn´t this state before? As i remember, all times i read, that DN67C is not allowed to drive on and everybody drive on it at their own risk.
Finally, what about sleeping at nature? We plan stay few nights out of all hotels and pensions and sleep in tents or cars . . At 2011, i saw thousands of local sleeping in their cars, in tents, caravans right in the mountains . . They found some free meadow and done :-). Is it legal at Transfagarasan or anywhere else (on DN67C etc.)?
Thx guys :peace:

Salutare.
Daca aveti alte ideei as fi recunoscator.
