Next time

Oricum, nici cu Saab-ul n-a fost asa rau :)

Hi there. For most of us it's probably the time to go to the seaside, but if you're stuck for something or need any info regarding your holiday route, feel free to ask here.

thanks. is there on my planned way something "have to see"? Or in near suroundings, about 100-200 km radius? Some technical interesting thing, something for petrolhead as i am? :-)

Transfagarasan is a must, of course. Take care on the south side because the road is not so good as on the north side.
If you get to Bran you can also visit Brasov (my town, nice town :D ), which is near, about 25-30km. Around this town there are a few roads that you can find at least interesting:
1.Brasov-Poiana Brasov-Rasnov (DN1E)
2.Brasov-Sacele-Cheia-Valenii de Munte (DN1A)
3.Brasov-Sacele-Tarlungeni-Teliu-Intorsura Buzaului-Siriu Lake (very nice)-Buzau (DN10)

If you enter the country at Nadlac you may visit Timisoara. Interesting city from my point of view. From there I recomand you a longer way to Transfagarasan, but a nicer and with less traffic roads. So:
Timisoara-Resita (on E70/DN59 and than left on DN58B)
Resita-Anina (on DN58)
After you leave Anina you go left on DN57B until you mit E70/DN6 (you will go through Bozovici, Prigor, Iablanita, small villages but with very interesting house's architecture).
When you meet E70/DN6 turn left on it until Caransebes.
Caransebes-Hateg (on DN68). Betwen this 2 cities you can stop at Sarmizegetusa to visit Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa, an old Roman settlement. It will take you no more then 45minutes, its right near the main road (the ticket it-s less then 1 euro).
Hateg-Hunedoara (on DN687A). At Hunedoara you can visit Castelul Huniazilor.
Hunedoara-Deva (on DN687 and left on E68/E79/DN7). At Deva is to visit Deva Citadel (Cetatea Devei).
Deva-Orastie-Sebes (on E68/DN7)
At Sebes you can go left on E81/DN1 until Alba Iulia were Alba Iulia Citadel is to visit. From Alba Iulia can go further on the same E81/DN1 around 85km until Turda where I recommend to visit Salina Turda.
From here you can go back on E68/E81/DN1 until Sibiu ( it's a must to visit it, it was European Cultural Capital in 2007), and then on E68/DN1 until Transfagarasan to left on DN7C.
If you do not want to go back you can turn right on E60/DN15 until Targu Mures and then another right on E60/DN13 until Sighisoara (the oldest inhabited medieval citadel in Europe).
Sighisoara-Brasov (on E60/DN13).
Brasov-Transfagarasan-Campulung-Bran-Brasov (E68/DN1, then left on DN7C at Carta, left on DN73C to Campulung, a very bad road as far as I know, and then on E574/DN73 through Bran, back to Brasov).

I hope I gave you some interesting ideas.
For other destination ask for, and if we know will give you information.

maybe. from some points of view, maybe. but for sure not from the point of view of the touristic interests. this country is not only roads, and for sure some wants to visit something else beside nice roads.

PS: I forgot to mention that around Brasov are a lot of medieval citadels which you can visit (Brasov Citadel, Rasnov Citadel, Prejmer Citadel, Rupea Citadel, Feldioara, Fagaras Citadel), of course, if you are interested.

hi guys, i´m sorry for interesting, but i´m looking for salt mines at Praid. I was talking with our romanian coleague at work and he told, that´s next place "have to see".
Do you know any best road to get in there? From Sibiu? I´m looking for Voila - Sighisoara - Viforoasa at 106, 13 and 13A.

Final plans are Arad - Timisoara - Resita - than tips from "yux_mm" user, get into brasov, Sibiu, Praid, get back to DN7C, maybe "transalpina", Pitesti, Bucuresti, Black Sea and than we will see.
But Transalpina, as i saw, has not got perfect surface for my "sweety " . .

What do think about that?

@zeleznak the Transalpina was recently completely paved (I hear), so the surface should be ok now. As far as I understood the best way from Sibiu to Praid is via Copsa Mica, Medias, Sighisoara, Odorheiu Secuiesc.

And if you are in the area it's definitely worthwhile to vizit Cheile Bicazului

Cheile Bicazului are indeed very nice. In 2009 the road was not so good, but anyway you will go not very fast because the view is breathless. The big problem was at that time the road between Miercurea Ciuc - Gheorghieni - Cheile Bicazului. I hope it's repaired now. Or you can choose another road to get there. I hope somebody on forum can advise you about the roads in that part of the country.

thx for tip to Cheile Bicazului. But i´m going in your country only for week  , i looked for that and it seems to be perfect place for hiking more than one day.
I don´t plan to go to romania only once, i´m gona get to know your country and roads and next year get back for longer trip. And than stay at one place longer, than a one day.
Praid is around 140 km far from Sibiu, but Cheile Bicazului is 100 km more.
I think, i have a lot of points of interest for next week :) and i should like to catch at least than half of them :D

thx again to all :peace:

Salut!

Nice pics. And noticed that you've learned a few words in romanian judging by the title of your album on Picassa :) Glad you enjoyed our roads, maybe next year you will also join us on our annually national meeting, AlfaFest. This year you were a bit too early, the meeting will be held next weekend in Brasov.

Quote:
Here's my question... that 20 year old board breaks off the cliff, yes the safety cable will probably hold you, but there is nothing to pull yourself up on to, so therefore you just thirst to death hanging there. I'd rather NOT used the safety cable, and plummet to my death than hang there and thirst to death... or maybe not do this kinda shit at all, well that is unless the antidepressants quit working again.
