Injectie directa in volum - combustibilul este injectat in camera de ardere. La TS-uri combustibilul este injectat in poarta supapelor de admisie.
Injectia indirecta - combustibilul este injectat intr-o antecamera, care este in legatura directa cu camera de ardere printr-un orificiu calibrat.
La benzina, corect este formulat injectie multipunct.(injectia realizandu-se printr-un nr de injectoare egal cu nr de cilindrii). La inceputuri, injectia de benzina se realiza cu ajutorul unui singur injector, de aici si denumirea de monopunct.
La JTS (Jet Trust Stoichiometric) este injectie directa de benzina, o noutate la motoarele termice cu arderere prin scanteie.
